  • More than a Chief Rabbi?

All of the more mature ideas in this chapter
are taken directly from the Chief Rabbi,
Dr. Jonathan Sacks', new book: "The
Politics of Hope." For a Chief Rabbi to write
such a book about general society, he readily admits, is unusual. But he feels that the issues that it concerns itself with are too important not to write about. The book is exciting, inspiring and quite original in its approach. The distinction made between a political and a civil society, as seen through the Torah, is very clear and interesting. But underneath, it is a very Jewish book. Only a great Jewish leader could weave a story as compassionate, hopeful and religious - in such a profoundly Jewish way - as this. The book has been well received and it is good to know that we have a Chief Rabbi who is recognised as "a light unto the nations," as a recent non-Jewish, famous journalist called him, quoting the Bible.
